North Cackalacky Frivolous Five!
Kopecky Family Band
1) Southern culture has bounded forward by…leaps and bounds…over the last 30 years. Better television show, The Dukes of Hazzard or The Andy Griffith Show?
Gabe Simon: Dukes of Hazzard!
David Krohn: Andy Griffith!
G: Wait, old-school Dukes of Hazzard or the new one?
Speakers in Code: There was a new one?
G: Yeah! Jessica Simpson was Daisy Duke…
SIC: Oh yeah! Johnny Knoxville was in it, right? God that sounds as bad as Saved by the Bell – The New Class…
D: There was a new Saved by the Bell – was it a movie?
SIC: No it was a show. Mr. Belding and Screech were still in it, of course.
G: There should have been a movie! Micheal Cera could be Screech, Paul Walker would be Zack. Kelly would be…
SIC: Jennifer Lawrence?
G: Yes! But who would be Slater?
D: – Vin Diesel?
G: – Channing Tatum! Jeffrey Tambor as Mr. Belding? I like this…
2) Nietzsche said “The true window to a man’s soul can be viewed by what cereal he eats.” What cereal do you eat? Why?
D: I’ve always just been a granola guy. Just nice and simple. With raisins.
G: He grew up in Colorado…
D: With all those damn hippies.
G: When I was a kid, I loved Lucky Charms, and I’d save all the marshmallows until the end.
3) BBQ is a noun, not a verb – what’s the best kind of BBQ, Pork, Beef, Pork, Chicken, or Pork?
G: South Carolina pulled pork BBQ. Markus (Midkiff) is from TX, so he’s all about beef brisket, but it’s so heavy. Pulled pork – you can eat a ton of it and still feel fine. You don’t have to wheel me out of the restaurant like with beef.
SIC: That’s why people in TX walk that way…
4) Bigger North Carolina Treasure – James Taylor, Ryan Adams, or John Edwards?
G: John Edwards pre-affair or post-affair? Like is he still running for president?
SIC: No, I’m hiding a baby John Edwards. Everything’s gone to pieces.
G: If I could pick…well tell me, is the pre-Mandy Moore Ryan Adams?
SIC: Pre-Mandy Moore Ryan Adams. Like Whiskeytown era.
D: Definitely Ryan Adams. Either way – don’t know why I asked that.
G: Yeah.
5) When traveling through the south, what scares you more — Southern Baptists, Racist Southern Baptists, Homophobic Southern Baptists, or those pink pickled eggs at gas stations?
D: (nervous) Aaaaaaah…
G: I’ll be PC here, because I grew up next to Bob Jones University, so I’ll say pink pickled eggs. But pickled pigs feet, that’s a different story. They’re a delicacy on Game of Thrones.
D: I’d go pink eggs too.
