You do not know
What wars are going on
Down there, where the spirit meets the bone
Down there, where the spirit meets the bone
Down where the spirit meets the bone
In late 1984, Lucinda Williams moved to Los Angeles. People in Austin told her, “Oh, they’ll eat you alive out there. You’ll come back to Texas with your tail between your legs.”
Lucinda’s response: “We’ll see.”
We’re now all familiar with the spirit of Lucinda Williams. She’s given us songs like “Drunken Angel,” “Honey Bee,” “Righteously,” and “Compassion,” from her latest album, the terrific Down Where The Spirit Meets The Bone. All those songs were performed last night at The Pageant in St. Louis, including a show closing cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World,” which had Williams pumping her fist in the air during the chorus. We’re sure Rick Rosas was listening.
