Words really are hard to describe how epically awesome alt-J and Tycho’s show was this past Monday at the historic Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
Tycho, otherwise known as Scott Hansen or ISO50 for his photographic and design works, started the night with his band performing a beautiful ambient set.
alt-J, the indie rock band from Leeds, England headlined the evening with a phenomenal set that has Nashville addicted to their music even more. Their set started with “Hunger of the Pine” off their new record, This Is All Yours, followed with a few hits from their debut record, An Awesome Wave. Once frontman Joe Newman started singing “Left Hand Free“, the Opry crowd went nuts and started cheering. It seems that the new single that has been buzzing over the radio waves for months has caught the attention of many and brought them millions of listeners almost overnight. Throughout the performance, the audience would hold up the triangle sign, especially during “Tessellate“, where Newman sings “Triangles are my favorite shape, three points where two lines meet”. While their set was not photographically easy, the silhouettes complimented alt-J’s shy personalities. They mainly let their music do the talking and it led to a performance that will be talked about for months to come.
alt-J will continue to tour in the US on and off throughout the rest of the year. Most of their performances are selling out, so get your tickets early. Please enjoy these photos by Kristen Abigail below.
