Lead singer Nate Eiesland wrote the new Scattered Trees album in memory of his father. Just look at the titles of the two songs we offer you today. It’s clear that Sympathy is a meditation on the gut wrenching feelings of love and loss, but it’s equally therapeutic.
“A Conversation About Death on New Years Eve” shows off the Chicago band’s penchant for lush harmonies. It alternates between the gas pedal and the brakes, changing up the tempo (and the volume) between the verses and chorus. And, the biggest problem here is that “everybody’s fallin’ apart…” Such unaffected honesty does not go unnoticed in my book. I’m just glad Eiesland decided to share.
