Last month, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals released The Lion The Beast The Beat, and the “deluxe version” of the album offered a little gem: Potter’s duet with Willie Nelson on “Ragged Company,” a song that was originally released on the first GPN album, Nothing But the Water.
Here’s the issue I have with this: both versions are stellar, but the duet with Nelson is better than the original — and now I can’t quite listen to Nothing But the Water without hearing Nelson’s voice. Perhaps that’s not a bad thing, but, damn, once you hear Willie’s voice, it’s just always going to be in that song.
