Sometimes I’m ahead of the curve, and sometimes, I’m a very late adopter. I’ve read about people losing their shit over Yeasayer for quite some time now, and I’ve admittedly procrastinated checking out this much-hyped Brooklyn band like no other.
So, last Thursday, when my daily NPR “Song of the Day” e-mail landed in my inbox, and I saw that Yeasayer had nabbed the honors, I thought to myself, “Ok, self, LET’S DO THIS.”
Mother of pearl! Those early adopters were so right on. I’ve listened – pardon my French – the crap out of this album in the last four days. The single “O.N.E.” has that global vibe reminiscent of MGMT’s “Electric Feel” topped off with a ready-for-the-dance floor beat that brilliantly ebbs and flows. Around the 4:30 mark, the song gets so delectably 80s, I want to put on leg warmers and straight up audition for DTV.
So, all you fly mothers, get on out there and dance. Dance I said!
Odd Blood is out now on Secretly Canadian.
