Well y’all, it’s the first of November and if you’re like us, there’s a void in your life that was previously filled with the anticipation of scary/slutty costumes, roasted pumpkin seeds, and “The Monster Mash.” Now, all we have are rotting jack-o-lanterns on our porches and a half-full bowl of unused trick-or-treat candy we’re likely to throw away just in time to replace it with unused marshmallow Peeps from Easter. It’s a sad time, but we have a present for those wanting to hold on to the festive mood for a few more hours.
Our Jam of the Day, “Violent Sensation Descends,” by Violens, gives off one of those nostalgically creepy vibes, veering from a vertiginous wash of synths into a chorus that could only have been written after overdosing on Zombies records and classic noir films. The ambient electronics are blended masterfully with blistering guitar textures evoking a psychedelic sonic collage that is straight-up out of the ’60s.
Since releasing a self-titled EP in 2008, Violens has toured the U.S. and Europe, performing with the likes of Grizzly Bear, Bat for Lashes, and Deerhunter. So, this ain’t no one-trick-pony.
