As the latest graduates of the British indie-folk boys school, Oxford four-piece Stornoway draw positive parallels with the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club and current SIC faves Mumford & Sons. I’m pretty sure no one could argue that’s an extremely positive thing given the way both bands have blown the beep up over the past year. So, the class of 2009-2010 continues to grow stronger.
Our Jam of the Day, “Zorbing,” is whimsical and lighthearted, but as I’ve learned Stornoway’s songs regularly do, it bursts into a whirling dervish of instrumentation and creative imagery at the drop of a hat. It’s familiar, but complex, which makes this guy feel at home while giving a bit of a challenge that a few of their peers fail to do.
