Chapel Hill’s Some Army is one of Russell Baggett’s many projects — and one project amongst many for the rest of his bandmates, including Rat Jackson, Aminal, J Kutchma & the Five Fifths, and the Honored Guests. Don’t call them a side project, though, because they’re all in on their new, self-titled EP, where today’s JOTD comes from.
In a lot of ways, the music that Some Army makes is the sonic representation of the band: complex, thoughtful, drawing from a wide variety of musical sources and genres. “We’ve Been Lucky” is all wide open skies and starry night; if a song out there was Zion National Park at night in early fall, it would be this one. Echoing and dreamy, it’s a slice of guitar pop with a dark side that’s waiting to be discovered. Stream it below.
Some Army plays the Pinhook in Durham, NC, on Saturday, 10/6, with Wood Ear. The show starts at 10PM and it’s free, so Triangle residents have no reason not to be there.
