After the experiences of nearly ten years as a band, Brooklyn-based noise-pop trio Parts & Labor are having a career-defining moment by delivering a catchy, blown-out masterwork.
The bare essentials that made them sui generis totems of modern art-punk: synthesized keyboard riffs distorted into oblivion, percussion pummeled hypnotically, crackling drones that haunt and soothe, and fearless melodies hollered skyward are still present. But, they are now focusing pointedly on what they do best: unique, electronic landscapes, melded with buzzing, anthemic hooks.
Our Jam of the Day, “Rest,” was produced by maximalist engineer Dave Fridmann, who, as discussed in our Oberhofer interview, seemingly pours his heart and soul into each album he touches. And here, he helps transform a band already known for their dense, futuristic sound into something massive, beaming, and downright nuclear.
