“Reconfiguration”, the first single of Other Lives’ new LP Rituals, is smoky and synth-filled, and the video – all shadows with little light, black and white clad figures engaged in a strange pas de deux – is the perfect visual representation of the sound the band is growing into on the new record. It’s more full, it’s more complicated, it’s more layered, both in sounds and in metaphor. The song is sexy and weird, the video is sexy and weird; I’m not sure I understand what’s going on here, I said to my boyfriend, but I really like it.

Other Lives play Haw River Ballroom in Saxapahaw, NC, on June 3.
