There are a few albums released in 2015 I keep going back to — Dawes’ All Your Favorite Bands, Sufjan Stevens’ Carrie & Lowell, Houndmouth’s Little Neon Limelight, and Kacey Musgraves’ Pageant Material.
I’m not here to judge what separates Musgraves from “country” and “pop country,” nor do I really care what her music classifies under. Perhaps what makes her stand out, though, is that she sings about whatever she wants: rolling joints, the “only crown being in her glass,” and living fast and dying fun.
She will be performing at The Pageant in St. Louis on Friday September 18th.
