“Just a little bored in the USA
Save me, white Jesus!
Bored in the USA“
Josh Tillman can do no wrong.
Since establishing his sardonic folk-rock alter ego Father John Misty with 2012’s Fear Fun, Tillman has kept busy by touring extensively, making weird whiskey ads, helping soundtrack “True Detective,” and releasing his own fragrance.
Evidently he also found time to record an album in this period, and it’s called I Love You, Honeybear. The new record was announced on David Letterman Monday night in conjunction with a stellar live performance of its first single, “Bored In The USA,” where Tillman was accompanied by a 22-piece string orchestra. The song is cynical, hilarious, and deeply depressing all at once, but we have a host of fresh Father John Misty tour dates and the promise of more new music to keep us from feeling too sorry for ourselves.
