We’ll be in Chicago all weekend for Lollapalooza, the three-day music extravaganza held at Grant Park. It’s one of our favorite music festivals for two reasons: the setting — Chicago’s skyline is overlooking the park — is breathtaking, and every second on every stage is a chance for discovery. You absolutely don’t have the to love the headliners to enjoy Lollapalooza, which is the way it should be.
So, we decided to aid in your discovery this weekend by listing our “Top 10 Acts To Discover at Lollapalooza.” Enjoy.
1. San Fermin (Friday, 12:15-1:00, Palladia)
Because “Sonsick” was one of the best songs of 2013.
2. NONONO (Sunday, 2:15-3:00, The Grove)
Oh, you know you can’t get “Pumpin Blood” outta your head.
3. London Grammar (Sunday, 3:00-4:00, Lake Shore)
One of the best voices of Lollapalooza.
4. Temples (Friday 1:00-1:45, Bud Light)
If there were another Pulp Fiction, this English band would lead the soundtrack.
5. Meg Myers (Saturday, 2:50-3:30, The Grove)
You will listen to “Desire,” and you will be singing, “How do you want me, how do you want me.”
6. Vance Joy (Saturday, 1:00-1:45, Bud Light)
With “Riptide,” he’s ready for takeoff.
7. Benjamin Booker (Saturday, 12:50-1:30, The Grove)
Still very raw, still finding his voice. But what potential.
8. Lykke Li (Friday, 7:30-8:30, Lake Shore)
Perhaps you’ve already discovered her, but how wonderful is her latest album, I Never Learn?
9. Joywave (Saturday, 5:40-6:20, BMI)
Have you heard “Tongues?” You need to hear “Tongues.”
10. Royal Blood (Friday, 6:50-7:30, BMI)
Because after all that EDM, rock music needs a new hero.
11. Gemini Club (Sunday, 1:00-1:45, The Grove)
What’s not to love about “Sparklers?”
12. Lucius (Friday, 1:45-2:45, Palladia)
We just saw them at Forecastle Festival, and they are the real deal with songs like “How Loud Your Heart Gets.”
