Somehow I’m not too bothered either way
Björk’s highly anticipated new album, Vulnicura, was set to drop later this year, but a full-album leak last week spurred the Icelandic songstress to grace us with the digital version on iTunes two months ahead of schedule. Spoiler alert: it’s fucking amazing. Influenced heavily by her split with longtime partner Matthew Barney, Vulnicura, is Björk at her most emotionally raw. She speaks quite frankly about the disintegration of their relationship, and while the subject matter is quite weighty, for every heart-breaking lyrical barb there is a gorgeous orchestral flourish or haunting melodic line to counterbalance the heavy air of despondency. I implore you to digest this album in full by yourself in a dimly lit room; it’s a powerful testament to how emotional turmoil can fuel spectacularly beautiful art.
