Give one listen to our Jam of the Day, “Carburetor,” by Brooklyn’s The Sweet Ones, and you’ll totally understand why they have dubbed their unique sound “Junk Rock.” That’s not to say it sounds bad, or messy, or even like they’re particularly smelly – but it does sound like a DIY, fend-for-yourself, experimental mash-up of conflicting musical styles. And in this case, that is a very good thing.
To record their latest album, Big Mistakes, The Sweet Ones set up shop in a 1920s mansion in Hartford, Connecticut. Apparently emptying their instrument storage closet before recording – banjos, harmonicas, and brass instruments galore can be heard across the eleven songs that make up the new LP. It’s simply fun as hell.
