A couple of months back, we gave you a little taste of an up and coming Chicago rock outfit known as Smith Westerns. This buzzing dream/garage-y band of youths have lived up to the hype with noteworthy sets at SXSW and the Pitchfork Music Festival in 2010. As a result, Smith Westerns are set to blow up with the release of their second full length LP, Dye It Blonde, this coming Tuesday (January 18th on Fat Possum). “Weekend,” a catchy tune (and lead track of the sophomore effort) that evokes T-Rex and Thin Lizzy was the initial taste of the new record’s sound, and what a taste it was. “Weekend” is sure to be on loads of best tracks of 2011 lists (if not already on 2010 lists due to its pre-record release). Upon early spins, we think the rest of Dye It Blonde stacks up nicely to the high bar set by the lead track.
