The Old Ceremony, a five-piece Triangle band fronted by hyper-literate songwriter Django Haskins, are one of the mainstays in the North Carolina music scene; they can be depended on to produce excellent pop-noir records every couple of years, and their 5th studio record, Fairytales and Other Forms Of Suicide, is no exception. Haskins’ songwriting tends towards a combination of hopeful optimism and the deeply macabre, and “Star by Star” is a perfect example of his talent for spinning a story through song, and the band’s talent for complex and haunting orchestration.

The Old Ceremony celebrate the release of Fairytales and Other Forms Of Suicide tonight at the Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, NC. Megafaun opens, and tickets are $12 at the door.
