Tonight, The Spring Standards roll into town with Tim Easton for a nice double-bill at Off Broadway (7:30, $12-15). The Spring Standards are James Cleare, Heather Robb, and James Smith are based out of Brooklyn, although they grew up in Delaware, perfecting their musical trade in high school. They released a double EP, yellow//gold, in 2012, and we became familiar with their music with this video for “Watch the Moon Disappear,” courtesy of Show Me Shows.

“STORMY WEATHER”
1) Stormy Weather – Billie Holiday
Billie Holiday can sing anything and make it sound good, but this song is lyrical perfection. That’s why it’s the title track of my playlist!
2) Dry The Rain – The Beta Band
I swear I loved this song before seeing (or reading) ‘High Fidelity.’ But that’s one of the best scenes ever, and this song is truly infectious.
3) I Wish It Would Rain Down – Phil Collins
Great song with an even better video featuring a young (but still bald) Jeffrey Tambor!
4) White Squall – Stan Rogers
This song has been with me since a very early age, and that image of the young girl “staring at the wall” has always given me chills. It also taught me the word “squall,” which comes in handy every so often.
5) Louisiana 1927 – Randy Newman
This man can do no wrong. An incredible true story set to music that reaches right down into your heart.
6) Who’ll Stop the Rain – CCR
Just some good ol’ fashioned rock’n’roll, and a great question to ask in the middle of a storm.
7) Shelter From the Storm – Bob Dylan
Yeah, yeah it’s a little predictable but come on – it’s Dylan singing about a storm. It had to make the list.
8) Before the Deluge – Jackson Browne
If I had a dollar for every time I listened to this song in high school and cried my eyes out, I would have a summer home in Martha’s Vineyard.
9) Purple Rain – Prince
I wouldn’t have been able to live with myself if I hadn’t included this sweet, sweet jam. I wish rain was always purple.
10) Here Comes The Sun – The Beatles
When you’re in the heart of a storm sometimes it’s hard to remember what sunshine actually feels like. The Beatles remind us.
