While Leon Bridges’ underground breakout (is that even possible?) “Coming Home” channeled the ever-living-fuck-out of Sam Cooke, his new single “Lisa Sawyer” sounds like the ghost of Harold Melvin slow-dancing with a laid-back Otis Redding. Visualize it as a foxtrot at a high school dance in 1963. It’s an odd sight, but Jesus it sets a mood.
Check it out below and give him two-or-three of your timeslots at SXSW this week. He should be a household name in a year’s time.
