“And lately you don’t make sense to me.”
I can’t stop listening to this song from singer-songwriter and fellow Saint Louisan, Beth Bombara.
There’s something about it that makes me think of my favorite albums I like to play in the fall. Albums like Neko Case’s Furnace Room Lullaby and Kathleen Edwards’ Failer. Music that soothes my soul and mind from whatever dose of reality that I’ve recently encountered.
What I am getting at here is that it feels real to me, that Bombara believes what she’s singing, that she clearly felt something in her heart that made her want to write and sing “Lately.” Because, you know, sometimes people just don’t quite make sense, and you have to sing about it.
It’s off her upcoming album, Wish I Were You, a project funded by her successful Kickstarter campaign (which you can still contribute to). Bombara will be performing an album release show at Off Broadway on November 19th with Old Lights. $10 will get you in the door, and will also get you a digital download of the album. How’s that for a deal?
For now, though, kick back and have a listen to today’s PJOTD, “Lately.”
