During the holiday season, hundreds of thousands of people endure freezing temperatures, high gas prices and long lines at the airport in the name of travel. But whether it be the yearly road trip to grandma’s house for Christmas dinner, or an extravagant vacation to Tahiti for New Year’s Eve, the tribulations are (hopefully) worth it because exploring the world beyond our day-to-day environment can be one of the most inspiring experiences one can have.
Few know this better than singer/songwriter Colyn Cameron of Wake Owl, who spent the latter chunk of his formative years traveling the world. His time working on farms in the UK, Germany, Chile and Canada inspired much of the material on Wake Owl’s forthcoming debut EP, Wild Country.
The EP’s first single, “Gold”, was released a few months back and has now received a wicked remix treatment from Noah Hyde/Magic Sword. The original version’s clever instrumentation is updated with lilting synths and a propulsive beat that transforms the stirring folk-rock tune into a danceable electro-pop hook-fest.
