NYC electro-pop duo Holy Ghost! (Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel) have spent the last couple of years crafting singles and remixes, releasing an EP, touring with DFA labelmates LCD Soundsystem, and creating a justified buzz in advance of the release of April’s self-titled debut record. The record’s lead single is “Wait & See,” a well-structured, synthy gem that is paced by drum beats and a relentless hi-hat cymbal attack.
The track is a body mover to be sure, but also singable and lyrically thoughtful as well, an aspect of “dance” music that can sometimes be muddled or downright forgotten as long as the beat is tight. With “Wait & See,” the lyrical wordplay is as skilled and credible as the contagious beats and keys: “In the cut, in the heart of the darkness / I feel as though, I feel dark, I feel heartless / Are you feeling love too? / Now the problems with me are in you.” The earnest, crafty lyrics match the ingenuity of the percussion and electronic composition to elevate “Wait & See” to heavy playlist rotation status.
