A good New York story can do so much for a song. It frames the music and melody, giving it credibility and context that no other city can provide. And to further refine the experience by drilling down to Brooklyn, the coolest and most productive of the five boroughs, certifies any song that dares take on the bohemian feel of the area and actually succeed.
Our Jam of the Day, “Lindy Hop,” by Brooklyn-born-and-bred band of brothers The So So Glos totally succeeds in transporting listeners to their natural habitat. And it damn well should considering singer/bassist Alex and guitarist Ryan Levine were raised under the same roof, and drummer Zach Staggers became their stepbrother at the age of four. They seem more qualified than 99% of the current NYC bands to bring us the true city flava.
The Glos will release their next EP Low Back Chain Shift, which is sure to be a diverse collection of grungy Ramones-influenced bangers on October 12th, and are currently touring with Matt & Kim, where they have already earned a reputation for a ripping live show.
