Recently, we picked The Drums’ “Let’s Go Surfing” as our Jam of the Day for its sporty splendor, an “as good as it gets” pop song. Today, we bring you the latest single from the band’s self-titled debut (out now digitally; in stores September 14th on Downtown Records), a foil of sorts to the aforementioned JOTD. “Down By The Water” is charming, with ’50s guitar chords a la Buddy Holly backing urgently romantic lyrics. Lead singer Jonny Pierce croons, “Everybody’s gotta love someone/ but I just want to love you dear…you’ve got to believe me when I say the words forever.”
The boys begin a co-headlining tour with Surfer Blood this September. We think it’s a match made in heaven.
