L.A. electro-dance-pop foursome Foster the People grooved their way into our hearts with the tip-top summer jam “Pumped Up Kicks” a few months back in 2010. With no EP or LP rumblings and grumblings attached to the track or the band (formed in 2009), we were left to wonder, who are these guys and when will we get more of those silky jams?
Well, the wait is now over as Foster the People has released another head bobbing track, “Helena Beat,” in anticipation of the release of the debut (and aptly titled) Foster the People EP on January 18th. “Helena Beat” is a scintillating follow up to “Pumped up Kicks.” Drums and synth direct the musical joyride and work seamlessly with vocalist Mark Fosters’ falsetto and catchy hooks. “Helena Beat” provides listeners with a larger view of this promising group’s sound (some kind of delightful hybrid of Oracular Spectacular MGMT, Empire of the Sun, Peter Bjorn & John, and a little Cut Copy for good measure). We’ll be keeping our eyes on these fellas in 2011, no doubt.
